CO Boys Stories and Showdowns of the 2025 State Meet

4A Boys - Distance Events

Some of the most premier racing comes in the 4A division on the boys' side because of the strength and depth of Coronado High School, Cheyenne Mountain High School, and Niwot High School. All of the distance events, including the 4x800m relay will see a showdown between runners from these three schools. Quinn Sullivan and Rocco Culpepper of Niwot High School and Xzavier Campos of Coronado High School highlight the 800m field, each running 1:53 so far this season.

In the 1600m, all three will try to pull off of the double, but they will be joined by others, including Hunter Robbie of Niwot High School, Curtis Smela of Thompson Valley, Boston Potts and Oliver Horton of Coronado High School, and Aiden Le Roux of Cheyenne Mountain. Honestly, your guess is as good as mine as to who comes out on top, but Sullivan has the best overall time of 4:09 that he ran in April at sea level. However, Culpepper does seem to be the favorite considering he has run 4:10 at altitude and has the 800m speed. This race may turn tactical and if it does, then the 800m specialists should win out.

Finally, in the 3200m, it will come down to Brogan Collins of Cheyenne Mountain and Le Roux. Collins has been nothing but consistent this season, but Le Roux did have a slow start to his outdoor campaign, making him a strong bet as he has just gotten stronger with each week. Nevertheless, do not count out the Coronado boys in Horton and Potts, who will also try to play spoiler against the Cheyenne Mountain duo.

4A Boys - Record Watch: Teagan Malcom

At the HOKA St. Vrain Invitational, Teagan Malcom of Longmont High School took the victory in the 300m hurdles in an incredible time of 36.81, just edging out 3A superstar, Jayden Michaelis of Berthoud High School. Malcom has been improving immensely over the past month and peaking just at the right time. Considering the Colorado State meet record is 36.81 and the Colorado prep record is 36.41, there could be a record brewing for this event, especially with how much Malcom has improved with each race.

4A Boys - Long Jump

The long jump is looking very competitive on the 4A side for the boys with the top four all jumping over 23 feet. At the top of the list is Jayden Nohr of Roosevelt High School, who has jumped 23-7.5. His lead is substantial over the next three names, which could mean anyone has a shot for at least 2nd. Jamesly Kelly-Cannon of Lewis-Palmer High School has jumped 23-2,  Jonathan Rice of Palmer Ridge High School has made it out to 23-.75, and Kuron Reed of Mitchell High School has jumped 23-0. To be honest, all four have not been consistently hitting 23 feet, which could make the competition a lot closer over all and not just for 2nd place, which is what it looks like on paper.
