Returning Champions: Aiden Le Roux

Throughout our preseason rankings and team scores, we will do feature stories on returning champions and top returning finishers from the state meet in all of the classifications. Take a look at our first feature story of the 2025 cross country season.

Hailing from Colorado Springs, Colorado, senior Aiden Le Roux of Cheyenne Mountain High School enters the spotlight once again. As the reigning 4A cross country state champion and state-course record holder, he heads into his senior season with momentum and big goals.

Fall XC 2024:  Aiden is coming off a truly remarkable cross country season last fall - one that firmly established him as one of the elite distance runners in the country. Throughout the season, he won six of the nine meets he competed in and impressively never finished outside of the top 9. Aiden lit up the cross country course with a dominant performance at the 4A Colorado State Championships, where he captured the individual title and shattered the state-course record with an impressive time of 15:01.09. That mark broke a many-year-standing record previously held by Parker Wolfe (now running professionally for Nike). This result at state, made Aiden the undisputed top runner in the entire state of Colorado.

Building on that momentum, Aiden delivered a stunning race at the Nike XC Southwest Regional meet, clocking a massive personal best of 14:30.86 to place 5th overall and earn an individual qualification to Nike Cross Nationals, a prestigious accomplishment in high school running. At NXN, Aiden rose to the occasion once again, placing 9th in the nation and 3rd among all junior boys, solidifying his status as an NXN All-American and cementing his reputation as one of the top high school cross country athletes in the country.

Insight: We were able to catch up with Aiden to gain deeper insight into his mindset, training approach, and what it has taken to rise to the elite level he's now reached. When asked about the key components behind his rise to success, Aiden was quick to highlight the importance of the people around him: "Key factors to my success were my teammates and coaches. They pushed me to perform at my best in my training and races. Their support allowed me to maintain a positive mindset, stay calm and relaxed, which helped me perform at my best."

After a tremendous fall campaign and a record-setting state title, the spotlight has grown brighter and with it, the potential for pressure to become a natural influence. Rather than being weighed down by expectations, Aiden seems to be drawing strength from them. When asked how he is approaching this upcoming 2025 season mentally, he shared: "I feel more confident in my fitness and ability to race at my best. I have become more motivated and focused to do everything I can to improve and be the best this upcoming season."

Training: Aiden's training this summer has remained incredibly consistent, driven by focused intensity and a clear sense of his goals. He has continued to build off the momentum from last year, locking in on the routines that helped him reach the top. When asked about his current training philosophy, Aiden explained that his approach has not changed much from what proved successful in the past. "My summer training has been very similar to last year, with a strong focus on building a solid base through consistent mileage to prepare for the season. This summer, I have emphasized more weight training than in past years to become stronger and stay healthy." Logging around 60 miles per week, Aiden balances volume with quality, incorporating workouts that are designed to sharpen both his fitness and racing instincts. Beyond the mileage, he remains deeply committed to the small details of performance, such as recovery, mobility work, and eating right. All of these keep him healthy and prepared for the intense competition ahead. This attention to detail and consistency is part of what continues to separate Aiden from the pack as he enters his senior year.

Looking Ahead: As we inch closer to the start of the 2025 Colorado cross country season, anticipation is building across the state and to no surprise, Aiden Le Roux has set some ambitious goals for his senior campaign. "I want to win all my races and help my team achieve the best possible results. As a team, I hope we can place highly in the state meet despite losing many of our top runners last year."

After a dominant season last fall, where he cemented himself as the undisputed 4A state champion, Aiden now looks to defend his crown, and perhaps even surpass his own course record. Could we witness the first-ever sub-15:00 performance on the Colorado state meet course? In addition to his individual goals, Aiden remains focused on helping Cheyenne Mountain improve on their 3rd place team finish from last year. With a strong mix of experience and belief, he aims to guide his squad toward a run at the 4A team title. Beyond high school, Aiden has already committed to continue his running career at Northern Arizona University, one of the premier distance programs in the nation. "I'm very excited about transitioning to college running at NAU. NAU is a great place with an incredible team atmosphere, and I know it will be a place where I will enjoy and thrive." With high aspirations and proven talent, Aiden Le Roux is set for a senior season to remember. Keep an eye on him this fall; more records may be falling soon.
