Wind, Snow, and Cold Setting Up to Wreak Havoc on Weekend's Slate of Meets

Ah, spring break in Colorado--the time of year when the weather in Colorado is predictably rotten. It was that way 35 years ago when I was in high school and, judging by the forecast for this weekend, not much has changed over the years.

At the mercy of the weather are meets in Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Frederick, Lakewood, and Hoehne. The worst of the weather is slated to hit eastern Colorado on Friday, but frigid temperatures, lingering winds, and cloudly temperatures remain in Saturday's forecast. With the western slope being a bit more protected from cold fronts slipping down across the plains, the meet in Delta figures to go off as scheduled. Delta's forecasted high of 50 should be plenty warm enough for hosting a season-opening meet for many western slope programs.

Coaches and meet directors are welcome and invited to post notices of meet cancellations and postponements as comments on this article.

The weather figures to be better early next week, meaning that schools who have the staffing to run meets during spring break and meets already scheduled for Tuesday should enjoy nice conditions for track and field.
