4A boys is getting its share of the attention right now, but 4A girls should end up being every bit as good of a contest for the state team title. Any of about 10 teams appear to be legitimately in the running right now.
Windsor High School is out front by a little and probably has more to look forward to from Emily Elliott than what currently shows in the rankings. Mountain View needs some support for Amy Medina, who may be the best athlete in the 4A ranks. Mullen enjoys relatively good balance and, once Christine Scott starts showing up in meets, will get a significant boost. Thompson Valley needs a meet or two with decent conditions. And so it goes. A weekend of good weather coming up should help to clarify some things.
Relays could very likely hold the key to the state title here and most teams' relays don't really start to take shape and jell until later in the season. Keep your ear to the ground to see what develops there.
Oh, and one more thing... if we see Annie Kunz this season, Wheat Ridge just might have the makings of a contender.
