Big Doings at Nike Valor on Saturday

With the weather forecast teetering on the brink of ugliness, there's much collective holding of breath with regard to the Nike Valor Championships (formerly the Nike Littleton Championships). Now in its sixth year, the meet brings together what is indisputably one of the best collections of the talent anywhere in the state. From out of state, Junction City, KS, appears to be bringing a loaded squad to the meet as well. This year, they're all coming to Highlands Ranch to run at Valor's (relatively) new 9-lane facility.

If you like headliner matchups, this meet has plenty of those:

Walter Schafer, Scott Fauble, Adam Sinda, and collection of other 9-something types in the 3200.

Girls hurdlers to include Stephanie Gerber, Maggie Anderson, Caylee Packham, and Kelsey Ankoviak.

A potential rematch of Marcus Harris and Kenny Chambers in the 100 meter finals.

GinAsia Hamilton in her debut in a Fountain-Fort Carson track and field uniform.

Ben Goodman of Palmer, who posted nice efforts at his team's own invitational last week, showing up in the 200 and 400 meter events. In the 400, he will find himself lined up next to Carzell Vickers and Kevin Scheuerman (no prelims for the 400).

A very nice girls 1600 field to include Clare Gallagher, Erica Hinchcliffe, Kailie Hartman, Becky Schmitt, and Kirsten Follett. Expect a pretty cohesive lead pack for at least three laps on this one.

Amy Medina and Jordan Rand going head-to-head in the triple jump.

At least four boys triple jumpers who are 45-0 capable.

An absolute all-star field in the boys discus to include Jaden Terry, A. J. Frieler, Jordan Davis, Caleb Spaulding, Jamarius Mathis, and more. This may be the most loaded event of the entire meet.

And relays galore. All the stops are out!

So, drop on by for a little bit of high-powered track and field action on Saturday.

But bring your umbrella.
