Colorado will be represented across multiple events at New Balance Nationals Indoor in Boston, with athletes competing in both distance and field events against some of the nation's top high school talent. The meet starts today and goes all the way until Sunday, so it will be an exciting weekend of indoor track and field! Here are the athletes to watch out for in Boston.
Girls: The hurdles is one of the better represented event groups for Colorado with Zenobia Witt racing, along with Alexandria Horton, and Amber Calender. All three competed very well a couple weekends ago, where Witt ran 8.42, Horton ran 8.63, and Calender ran 8.68 in the 60m hurdles! Additionally Witt's time is ranked in the top 10 nationally and with two national meets going on this weekend, she has a very good chance of making it to the finals.
In the flat 60m, Evangeline Ansah is the highlight for Colorado, who has a personal best time of 7.59 in the race. She is only a sophomore, so she still has a lot of room for growth, but this weekend will be a great opportunity for her to gain some experience. She will also be competing in the 200m, where she has a personal best time of 25.00 for the indoor version.
Wrapping up our sprints representation is Rhyan Gadlin, who will be competing in the 400m. She is a strong long hurdler and does have a PR of 8.95 in the 60m hurdles as well. Her indoor 400m personal best from this season was 57.73 and earlier in the season, she ran 41.87 in the 300m, so she has a lot of potential to put together her best race result this weekend!
Witt will once again be the highlight for the field events as she will be competing in the long jump, where she finished 8th in Boston a year ago. She had a monster jump of 19-10, which is the #1 ranked jump in Colorado and puts her in the top 15 nationally. If she puts together a really strong day, she could get on the podium in this event as well.
Boys: In the boys' 60m hurdles, Cameron Bell, Solomon Morrell, and Nathan Moller are some of the names that will represent Colorado in the event. Bell has the best time of 8.02, which is also the #2 ranked time in all of Colorado! Moller is next with a PR of 8.26 and then Morrell with a time of 8.37. Morrell is also the 3A returning state champion in the 110m hurdles, so he has a lot of experience competing well on the big stage.
For the flat 60m, Isaiah Watson and Gavin Reddick highlight the Colorado field with Watson sitting at a 6.78 for his PR and Reddick at 6.92. Watson is ranked #2 in all of Colorado and has stayed near the top of the rankings all season. It will be exciting to see how these two do against some of the fastest high school athletes in the country!
For the 200m, Reddick will be racing again, along with Class 4A state champion in the 400m Carter Sola, who is also entered in his primary event of the 400m. Both Reddick and Sola ran 22.23 this season, so we will wait to see if they improve upon that. For Sola's 400m, his time of 48.67 is very close to his outdoor PR, which is extremely impressive!
Leading the distance group is Hunter Robbie, who enters the boys championship 2-mile fresh off an impressive 8:51 performance at The Circuit. Robbie also brings strong championship credentials after finishing 6th at Nike Cross Nationals, and he will look to translate that momentum onto the national stage in Boston.
Teammate Rocco Culpepper is slated to compete in the championship mile. Culpepper, the reigning Colorado 4A State Champion, owns a 4:03.80 mile personal best, making him one of the top Colorado milers to watch as he takes on a deep national field.
The top 800m runner for the winter season was Nolan Thackwell, who ran 1:54 this season. Though the 800m is fairly deep this year on the national side, he is still ranked within the top 50! He has also been fairly consistent this season, which bodes well for a good result on the national stage.
Colorado will also have representation in the boys field events. Owen Twesme of Palmer Ridge high school, enters the boys shot put as the reigning Colorado 4A State Champion, bringing proven championship experience to the national competition.
In the boys high jump and long jump, Nathan Moller, also of Palmer Ridge High School will compete after finishing 6th at the 2025 Colorado 4A State Championship, looking to build on that performance against top athletes from across the country. This season he has been extremely successful in both events, jumping over 6-9.5 and long jumping 22-10.5! He is ranked #1 in both events for the state of Colorado.
He will be joined by Prince David Ajibade in the high jump, who did quite well this season, jumping 6-7, and he will also be joined by De'Marcues Harris, who jumped 21-9 this indoor season.
Finally, Ethan Rathke will represent Colorado in the pole vault, with his personal best vault of 16-7! That mark is clearly one of the best in all of Colorado and places him in the top 15 in the whole nation!
With competitors across distance and field events, Colorado athletes will have multiple opportunities to make their mark at New Balance Nationals Indoor in Boston.
