A few items of interest to the Colorado cross country/track and field community...
The CHSAA Board of Control approved the cross country committee report today. This means that 4A and 5A will be allowed up to nine runners per team at the regional meets, 3A will be allowed up to eight, and 2A will be allowed up to seven. Anyone who places in the top 15 at regionals will be awarded a ribbon. If either of a team's two extra runners places in the top 15, however, those individuals will not advance to state. Any "extra" runners from a team will be removed from scoring for the purpose of calculating team scores.
The CHSAA Board of Control also approved the classification breakpoints as set by the CLOC committe. So, for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years, 1A will be schools with enrollments from 1 - 85, 2A will be 86 - 240, 3A will be 241 - 600, 4A will by 601 to 1410, and 5A will be 1411 and up. Classification will be based on October, 2011, enrollment counts.
In case you hadn't noticed, there's now a major gap in the track and field schedule on April 16 where the Nike/Valor meet has been in the past. The Nike/Valor meet will not be held this year. If you're lucky, your school has already scheduled prom for that weekend. If you're not so lucky but have a pint of opportunistic blood coursing through your veins, you just might inquire with CHSAA about hosting a large rankings meet on the Front Range that weekend. Chances are there are a lot of schools casting about for an April 16 meet.
And a couple of snowshoe race notes: In the Pazzo's Holiday 5K at Vail, Evergreen's Jackson Sayler finished fourth while teammate Sam Skold finished second overall. That race was on December 18th. Battle Mountain's Christian Kloser was fourth in the Beaver Creek 5K on January 9. Colorado Track XC be running an article on the high school state championship snowshoe race in February very soon.
