The Coronado Cougar Classic, scheduled for Friday afternoon/evening April 29 at Garry Berry Stadium adjacent to Wasson High School, will play host this year to an invitational field of 1600 meter boys and girls.

 

Coaches with teams not already entered in the meet may submit entries for the 1600 fields at an entry fee of $10 per athlete. There is no additional cost for teams already entered in the meet. Team scoring in the 1600 will be calculated by merging times from the 1600 heats. The invitational 1600s will be contested among the top 18 entries for both boys and girls received. Seed marks will be taken only from this year's marks.

 

Schools already entered in the meet will still be limited to two 1600 entries per school, regardless of whether they entries in the invitational 1600s.

 

The normally scheduled 1600s will be run at 2:20 (girls) and 2:30 (boys). The elite 1600s will be contested at 5:40 (girls) and 5:55 (boys). A complete meet schedule is shown below and on the meet page.

 

If you are interested in making an entry, please contact the meet director (see information in meet page link below). Expect to see several of the top distance runners from the Colorado Springs area in the fields with, undoubtedly, a few from surrounding regions as well.

 

While no guarantees can be made about the weather, Garry Berry Stadium sits at a little over 6000 feet elevation and offers reasonable protection from the wind in most directions.
