1. Elise Cranny v. Katie Rainsberger - Who's going to come out ahead in this one? Will it be the old guard or the new? The two have managed not to meet all season. Early in the season, I think Cranny would have won, hands down. But, Rainsberger has gotten steadily better. This one will be fun to watch in the 4A girls race.

Did this one deserve top billing or what?! Surge. Counter-surge. Surge. Counter-surge. I'm guessing both girls are totally spent this morning. It looked as if Rainsberger had it in the bag making the turn into the stadium, but one final counter-surge from Cranny gave her the victory by the thinnest of margins. This one goes right down with Burell/Vaughn and Hanenburg/Berggren as the greatest state races in my memory banks. Curiously, two of those races featured Air Academy runners.
