The Top High Jump In The Nation

On paper, it looked like a great high jump showdown between Nebraska's Mayson Conner and Colorado's Jequan Hogan.

But, Hogan bowed out after clearing 6-6, leaving the spotlight entirely on Mayson Conner. Conner cleared 6-8 to win the competition, and then next moved the bar to 6-11. It didn't come on the first jump, but Conner did get 6-11.

That prompted a move to 7-1.5. A clearance there would put Conner atop the national leaderboard for the high jump. Again, success proved elusive for two jumps. On the third jump, however, Conner got the clearance, a new PR, and the top spot in the nation on the season. 7-1 would have claimed the top spot, but would only have tied his PR, hence the most probable explanation for the 7-1.5 setting.
