
At midway through the day on Friday's preliminaries, the Colorado contingent is already making a nice showing at the 35th annual edition of the Simplot Games.
It all began Thursday evening when a smallish group of Colorado distance runners took on the Utah hordes. To be sure, the Utah group left the track with the lion's share of qualifiers for finals, but not before Colorado advanced a few to finals on the strength of some solid efforts.
Chandler Reid ran 4:27 to take second in the 1600 prelims and advance to finals. Liam Meirow, also advancing to finals, finished eighth at 4:31. Aaron Bonenberger and Zach Swenson rounded out Colorado's qualifiers for Saturday's finals in the men's 1600 with prelims times of 4:38 and 4:39, respectively. It would seem that no ill effects of Meirow's snowshoe 5K last Saturday lingered over into Thursday night.
