GRAND JUNCTION - As the second half of the season begins, the stakes are getting higher and the strategies narrowing as athletes and teams are trying to secure or solidify their spots in the standings.
Weather has been the villain for a good part of the season. With four to seven inches of snow blanketing the Grand Valley Wednesday morning, many worried that this year’s Phil Wertman would fall as yet another casualty. In true western Slope fashion, however, the snow was gone as quickly as it came, and there was no sign of the white stuff at Stocker Stadium Friday evening.
This was great news for the athletes. Shrugging off a bit of briskness, they came to the track ready prepared to make their statements.
