Massive Count of Entries Converging on Thursday's Doherty Invitational

You know you have a good thing going when you can't beat teams away from your meet with a spiked club. Such is the dilemma Doherty coach Rob Duensing faces. 

Doherty has 1172 entries for their meet tomorrow. To put that into perspective, that is the size of one of the largest track and field invitationals in the state. For a single-state cross country meet, this is enormous. Bigger than Liberty Bell. On a par with the St. Vrain and Cheyenne Mountain Stampede meets. It's all about supply and demand. Park your meet on a weekend without a lot of meet action and they'll come like moths to your porch light.

And, speaking of parking, that promises to be interesting as well. Cheyenne Mountain High School has already volunteered to help park the masses. CMHS is making their lots off of La Veta Street (just south of the school) and the lower lot off of Cresta Road available for the overflow. 

Not all 1172 athletes will end up running, of course, but many will--enough to crowd the start line a little and most of the first mile of the trail. Details of times and such may be found on the Adidas Doherty Spartan Invitational meet page.

Several of the teams at this meet last year ran second-varsity kind of squads at this meet, but the list on entries would indicate that will be less the case this year. There are many very familiar names on the list of entries.
