CU-Boulder's Balch Field House is a cozy little place to hold a meet. Colorado Track XC file photo.
Colorado's indoor season is more or less strictly a club affair. With the Colorado School of Mines apparently deferring on hosting a high school indoor meet this year, the in-state options for those not holding a USATF membership card are apparently now down to the Air Force High School Indoor Open on February 8. If you get creative, however, you can also find meets you could enter in Chadron, NE, Albuquerque, NM, more in Albuquerque, NM, hosted by UNM, Norman, OK, Pocatello, ID, Manhattan, KS, Lawrence, KS, a few in Utah, and maybe, possibly, one or two in Wyoming.
Honestly, though, unless you really like travel on winter weekends, it might be easier to get yourself a USATF membership card.
And, all of this year's action starts Saturday at CU's Balch Field House under the pressbox on the west side of Folsom Field. Field events start at 8:30 and track events at 9:00 for the 14-and-under set. For the high-school-age-and-up group, events start at noon. The meet web site says no late registration, so be sure to get your registration taken care of by midnight tonight.
Events for this Saturday will include the 60 meter hurdles, 60 meters, 300 meters, 600 meters, 1500 meters, 4x200, long jump, high jump, triple jump, and shot put. So, unless somebody fast has found an out-of-state meet, there will still be no Colorado representation in the national rankings for 200, 400, or 800 meters following this weekend. But that time will come...
