Score one for track and field, but it was a close call. The Centennial Invitational had a little bit of everything: meet records, dropped batons, injuries, blustery conditions, dropped batons, and--for a couple of glorious hours--springlike conditions.
If it hadn't been for two consecutive weekends of lousy weather leading up to the meet, this meet might never have started. But the bone-chilled men and women at the coaches meeting were determined to make this one happen. After all, the real weather wasn't schedule to arrive until the evening. Several of the attending schools brought rosters depleted by spring break, but--to a person--everyone seemed determined to get a meet in.
And that might help to explain why the meet started under sub-freezing conditions.
