A slightly larger than normal crowd greeted the athletes as competition began Saturday morning. One of the special things about track in Jefferson County is the number of alumni who have either joined the coaching ranks in their county of origin or whose kids now compete. There is always a special hometown atmosphere at this meet as multiple generations of some families have been holding their same spot in the stands at Jeffco Stadium since it was built.
As most track and field observers probably noticed, the weather was near perfect for most of the day on Saturday. Such was the case at Jeffco Stadium. As mentioned in the 4A article, the newly installed scoreboard at Jeffco is more than worth the price of admission as it keeps the athletes, coaches and spectators up-to-date in real time on results and team standings.
