Sure, it's Liberty Bell weekend. But, a few of us just can't get enough of the old state meet course in Pueblo. Evidently, somewhere in the mid 20s of schools felt that way.
There was no Liberty Bell speed show. 19:20 was the fastest girls time on the day, and 16:25 was the fastest boys time. Those who competed today at Pueblo Central will have to wait for another day for the screaming sort of times posted Friday at Liberty Bell--or at Fort Morgan.
The chill in the air was palpable for the start of the 9 AM boys race but was already largely a thing of the past by the time the top four runners were straining for the finish line. After Corey Lewenkamp set a brisk early pace, Pueblo Centennial's Michael Duran took over the lead and a lot of folks figured the game was over. Duran has a way of putting things away once he goes to the front.
