Defending boys champion Jake Erickson did not retain his individual Anna Banana championship, but his course record did withstand a close call. Montrose sophomore Ian Meek continued to build his cross country resume by chalking consecutive win number six. Meek’s 15:50 was just two seconds shy of the record and marked a whopping 75 second improvement over last year. Meek continues to demonstrate he is a threat on both strength as well as speed courses.
Meek took the pace out and distanced himself fairly significantly by the first mile. At that point the chase pack was already starting to stretch out with Telluride’s Jack Plantz starting to claim a solid second ahead of Palisade’s Erickson and Bayfield’s Trevor Gabbard.
