Clayson Shumway enjoyed very nice races at both Liberty Bell and State in 2012. Colorado Track XC file photo by Paul Jaeger.

The 2012 Liberty Bell-State results stand out for a couple of reasons. First, both races were conducted under nice weather conditions with reasonable temperatures, light to non-existent wind, and high barometric pressure. Second, there was a lot of modest exchanging of places between Liberty Bell and State among the top finishers for this year. If you're looking for a year to provide anecdotal evidence for the claim that a rigorous course mixes up the order of finish over a flatter, faster course, this year is the posted child for that claim. It should be noted, however, that Clayson Shumway and Eli Hemming were, among those who ran at both races, clearly fastest at both races. The large-scale shuffling of order factor arrives after Shumway and Hemming.
