Showdowns were the story of the day at Saturday's Mullen Runners Roost.
But, not everything came down to a showdown, or at least not a suspense-filled showdown.
Javan Lanier removed the suspense from the 100 and 200 with impressive wins. Lanier clocked 10.89 (-1.6) for the 100 and 22.04 (0.0) for the 200. Neither was a call anyone else cared to try to answer.
At 400 meters, however, everything you ever wanted in a showdown showed up on the track. Avenging a loss earlier in the season, Valor's Ben Waters outmuscled TCA's Nick Deray down the finish straight of the 400, winning at 48.58 to 48.72. For their efforts, both walked away with season-best marks, and Deray's mark stands as a PR. They probably haven't seen the last of each other for the season. That's great news if you like track and field.
