As one of the states of the Southwest region, Colorado annually has the opportunity to send a team of its finest high school athletes to the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic.
This year's Great Southwest Track and Field Meet will be held June 4 through 6. June 4 and 5 will hold the multi events, while the hammer throw, steeplechase, and all relays except the 4x100 and 4x400 take place on June 5. The remaining events will take place on Saturday, June 6. The meet will be hosted at the track and field complex on the University of New Mexico campus.
The Great Southwest Classic is open to athletes throughout the region, while elite athletes from many other states are invited as well. Nearly twenty states were represented at the 2014 edition. The assembled fields are generally quite selective and very competitive.
The Colorado girls squad has claimed the team title each of the last two years. While the boys haven't achieved the same success, they have experienced some success nonetheless. We'd like to have more involvement on the boys side and send two EXCELLENT squads to Albuquerque.
