Even from early stages of the race, Soleil Gaylord saw no serious threats. Photo by Alan Versaw.

The small school action heated up with the morning at the dusty Norris Penrose Event Center, as racers from 2A and 3A were the first to take to the new state course.

The Telluride girls posted a statement win last year at the Stampede. Sophomore Soleil Gaylord made sure 2015 didn't deviate from previous scripts.

Gaylord put a large early gap on the field, puncuating that with a first mile at 6:23. The rout was completed when she finished in the stadium with a 21:53.9, a full 1:07 ahead of Maggie Allen of Wiggins.

Gaylord was all smiles after her finish. "It feels great. I love my team, and I love leading them through this. Cross Country is my sport, so I feel great about today."

Anna Fake and Esme Fahnestock rounded out the remaining scores for Telluride placing 5th and 6th. The two runners scored 9 points because of the individual placing of Lake City's Megan Levine who took fourth.
