October belonged to Heritage Christian Academy. Lock, stock, and barrel. Or at least 30 days of October did.

Throughout the month, the Eagles tightened their grip on the top spot in the 2A Girls rankings. HCA blew through their league and region with ease.

State was supposed to be the next blowout in line.

Telluride, though, had a different plan.

At the front of the race, things went perfectly according to plan to Heritage Christian. Rachel and Rebekah Rairdon did exactly what they've done all season long. They darted out to the front of the pack and delivered the goods. 19:55 and 20:05.

Telluride's Soleil Gaylord kept it respectably close at 20:09, but the twins weren't entertaining any notions of anyone coming between them at the state meet. Not early in the race, not midway through the race, and most certainly not at the end.

Thus, the story was setting...
