Emily Hanna of the Fountain Valley School does two events. What she lacks in quantity, she makes up for in quality. On Saturday, she won both of her events--the high jump with a sub-standard (for her) clearance of 4-9 and the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.86. Catch up with her and see the show sometime this season or wonder what you missed.
It was the Peyton girls, though, that piled up the most points in this meet. Although Peyton won only four events, they piled up points, usually high points, in almost every event to accumulate a day's total of 110 points. The Panthers won the 4 X 400 and 4 X 800 relays, and also added titles at 400 meters by senior Sari Little and at 3200 meters by junior Cassie Pierce. Peyton's most serious challenge came from the Byers girls. Byers was led senior Nikki Lippitt who bested the field in three events--the 100 meters at 13.14, the long jump at 15-5.5, and the triple jump at 32-2.
The contest on the boys' side featured the distance strength of Rocky Ford versus the sprint and hurdle strength of Strasburg. At the end of the day, Rocky Ford edged Strasburg by a tally of 83 to 78. Leading the way for Rocky Ford was Victory Montoya, pictured at right in the 4 X 800. Montoya's contributions for the day included a leg on the winning 4 X 800 relay and titles at 1600 meters (4:37.35) and a virtually uncontested victory at 3200 meters (10:35.03). The day's only other multiple event winner was Isaac Woodward of Strasburg who captured the titles at 200 (24.22) and 400 (52.38) meters.
