For a sizable number of Colorado high school track and field athletes, the La Junta Tiger Relays is as close as they ever come to seeing an honest-to-goodness small-school meet. For another sizable number of Colorado high school track and field athletes, the La Junta Tiger Relays is as close as they ever come to seeing an honest-to-goodness large-school meet.

The Tiger Relays does a commendable job of walking that line without falling in any decisive sort of way on one side or the other. And, out of that balancing act comes a consistent stream of top-end performances.

Leading this year's parade of noteworthy efforts was Taylor Stack. Stack dropped a PR and shot to the front of the 3A 3200 field with a 9:34.85. There may have been an instant or two off the gun when Stack didn't have the lead, but it was more or less a wall-to-wall solo effort for the Salida senior.
