For everyone in 1A, it's down to one last opportunity to qualify for state. We'll discuss what it all means below the tables, but here is where we currently stand for 1A state qualifying. The current minimum state qualifying mark is shown in the right column. If it is equal to or better than last year's minimum state-qualifying mark, it has been bolded.

There are any number of reasons why this year's state-qualifying minimum in an event might be softer than last years. It could be that it's just waiting for one more week of action. It could be that the mix of athletes in an event simply isn't as strong as it was last year. Or, it could simply be due to diminished opportunities with this year's rough bout of spring weather.

If recent history remains the pattern for this year, expect to see a big push on 1A relays in the final week of the season. As the saying goes, it's time to fish or cut bait. Coaches who may have been hoping to get athletes to state as individuals have run out of time to play with in that experiment and figure to be shifting emphasis for several of those individuals to qualifying them on relays.

We will still see improvements in the qualifying standards for individual events, but very likely less so than with relays this week.
