It was a limited set of Thursday events for Class 1A, But, even in the events there were, the favored Eagles of Heritage Christian Academy accomplished what they needed to accomplish, and perhaps even a little bit more.
The 3200s were a particular piece of HCA domination, with the girls racking up 28 points in the event and the boys 24. Those points included event titles from Luke Gilliland and Rachel Rairdon.
Springfield's boys would counter with 18 points in the shot put with a 1-2 from Andy Borunda and Keith Tate, but even there HCA managed five points from Joe James.
Shining Mountain Waldorf has managed, thus far, to keep things reasonably close on the girls side with a sizable collection of their own points in the 3200 and pole vault.
Cameron Klann left the day with a new 1A state meet record in the long jump at a quarter-inch shy of 22 feet. Klann should get another year to work on that. Antonya Schaffert of Otis took the pole vault at 9-10. Jenna McKinley pitched the discus to 131-6, a new 1A state meet record.
