You chose to stay right in town at the University of Northern Colorado and not to go away for school. What made UNC the most attractive school and program for you?

I believe UNC is looking forward to a large class of freshman guys in order to develop their team and the idea of being able to largely impact a team as a freshman was very appealing to me. Also UNC's campus is extremely nice save for some adverse weather during the year.

What do you plan to study at UNC?

I'm looking to major in journalism and I will try and minor in pre-law as well.

What event or events do you hope to be able to focus on in college?

I've always loved cross country so the 5k, or now the 8k, will always be a good time for me. Though I'm hoping to work in some leg speed and continue running 800s and 1500s come track season.

Frontier Academy has long had a solid core of runners. What are a couple of the differences that has made for you in your development as a runner?

Frontier does so many things to help contribute to our runners but the most important for me was the coaching staff. Any team can create a solid schedule of training but it's a rare occurrence that a runner leaves high school with coaches they can also call their best friends, though that's exactly what Frontier has created. Each year the coaches find new ways to train the specific athletes and there is never a lack of encouragement. I also think there's a strong adherence to tradition, though that may admittedly come from my days at YHS. Another major factor was my teammates and their shared dedication to success. So for me these things have certainly combined to put both confidence and capability within me as a runner.

If I asked you to pick out a single highlight moment from your high school career, what would that be?

One of my favorite moments has to be the 800 my junior year at state track. I remember before the race I was projected to not make the podium. But right before my warm up I talked with Coach Chambers and he told me that I belonged in the race and that I needed to run with heart. I ended up getting 8th in the race and while I was one the podium I could hear him cheering for me from the sideline, which at the state meet is a feat in and of itself.I also remember that I called Coach Shanklin after the race to fill him in and all in all this race was extremely pivotal in what developed my relationship with my coaches and my running ability.

What was your favorite cross country course to run in high school?

I think the Woodbridge invite in California is my favorite course. Something about being under the lights at sea level seems to bring out the best in people.
