What does the team scoring look like when we take only the top 21 girls teams from all divisions the state meet and score them against one another? Photo by Jeff McCoy.

The idea of a power merge from a multi-division meet is to reduce the field to a "conventional" meet size of about 20 teams, throw all the results together, then score it as a normal meet. There are, of course, some dubious assumptions made when you do this, but it still gives you some idea of how the top teams score against one another without the penalties exacted on 4th and 5th runners that are typical of very large fields of teams.

In this case, I found a natural break between teams 21 and 22 in a full merge, so I took the top 21 teams from the full merge and rescored with a power merge. Below are the results:
