Anna Hall Snares Pentathlon Indoor National Title

Anna Hall soared to 5-10.5 in the high jump to alter the course of the pentathlon competition.

Through three events, it appeared as if the indoor national pentathlon title just might slip away from Anna Hall. Things were going okay, but not well enough to secure a national title.

Hall went 9.46 for 816 points in the opening event, the 60 meter hurdles. That started her out at 9th in the standings.

Hall's shot put went 31-0.5 for seventh in that part of the competition and 494 points. A fifth in the long at at 17-6.25 netted another 654 points. She was rising in the overall standings, but not nearly fast enough.

All that started to change with the high jump. Hall established a huge new PR mark of 5-10.5 for first place, 966 points, and nearly 200 points up on her nearest challenger in the event.

Maybe that afforded Hall a little extra adrenaline. With four events on her legs, Hall opened up and ran 2:20.98 for second in the 800 and another 810 points.

Hall finished the competition, then with 3740 points. Her margin of victory over second place Alix Still was almost exactly accounted for in the difference between her and Still in the high jump.

Other Colorado notes from Day 2 of the NBNI competition include:

  • Audra Koopman running 7.76 and Taylor Watson 7.80, but neither advancing out of the 60 meter dash prelims,
  • Corbin Mayes clearing15-3.5 for 16th in the pole vault, and
  • Audra Koopman getting 8th in the long jump at 18-10.5

New Balance Nationals Indoor wraps up tomorrow, and Brie Oakley will be contending for her second national title, this time at two miles.
