While most of the Colorado action took place in the days leading up to the final day of the Texas Relays, at least one major highlight waited for the final day of action.
Under leaden skies and temperatures parked in the mid 60s, Tanner Norman bided his time for a little more than two laps before breaking from the field and running the rest of the 3200 as a solo effort, winning in a new US No. 1 time of 9:00.62.
Norman passed through the 1200 at 3:24, and each of the next four laps would be clocked within a half-second of 68 seconds. That left Norman in the difficult position of trying to post a sub-9 effort, but with a time a bit over 7:57 at 2800 meters.
Norman made the best of it and closed in just over 62 seconds, but finished just over nine minutes.
What didn't get away from Norman, however, was a decisive meet title (10 seconds ahead of second place) and--for the moment--the top 3200 time in the nation for this year's #8 finisher at Nike Cross Nationals.
Elsewhere, Mullen's boys advanced to finals in the 4x100 with a time of 43.31 in prelims. Finals, however, did not go as well as prelims for the Mullen boys as they suffered a DQ on account of an exchange occurring outside of the zone.
The Mullen girls 4x100 did not make it to finals, bowing out of prelims with a time of 56.22.
