2017 LoboCat Invitational: Weather, Meet Battle To A Draw

Fairview Sets the Standard in Girls 4x800m

While the weather remained reasonable, the Fossil Ridge girls ran a respectable 1:52.19 to lead all times in the SMR8. The mark ranks Fossil Ridge 16th in 5A; a precarious position for a relay as the season rolls into May.

Similarly, the Liberty Common team took fourth as the fastest small school running 1:57.69. The mark leaves Liberty Common ranked 18th in 3A.

The next race proved to be the best event on the track of the day as the ladies of Fairview put together a 5A-topping 9:27.05 for the 4x800m, defeating the rest of the field by 40 seconds.

Off the track, Rocky Mountain's Gabriella McDonald stayed warm enough to toss the shot put 42-04. outdistancing Moria Dillow's second place throw of 36-07.05. Heritage Christian's Jenn Stellingwerf took sixth with a solid small school performance of 32-11. And Kylie Chavez continued her high jump dominance, winning with a jump of 5-3.

On the boy's side, Wyoming's Dawson Cooley beat northern Colorado's best in the 110H after Nolan Kembel of Mountain View hit a hurdle early. Kembel redeemed himself in the 300s with a time of 39.58. Teammate Luke Gordley finished a hair behind running 39.87.

Victor Zimmerman vaulted a subdued 13-6 into a very wet landing pad to beat Poudre's Sid Bennett. Liberty Common's Corbin Mayes was conspicuously absent from the pole vault pit. Sterling's Liam Skerjanec jumped 11-6 to tie for ninth. The height places him 12th in the 3A pole vault rankings. Skerjanec is testament to Sterling's depth on the field as he is the fourth athlete from Sterling with a state qualifying ranking in pole vault.
