Whoa.
I wasn't there, but I can read results.
A summer weeknight meet with Natasha Gay, Jeremy Dodson, and MaryBeth Sant?
What is this summer coming to?
And, yes, if you haven't heard, MaryBeth Sant is working on resurrecting her sprint career. She'll be at CSU this fall with hopes of getting her speedy feet back underneath her after hanging things up due to a series of injuries. Last night was a preliminary step back, and not a bad one at all. Sant ran 12.40 (0.4) for second in the 100.
Jeremy Dodson coaches sprints at Lutheran, hence his connection to this meet. Lutheran (running in the summer as Amata Track Club) has a pretty big off-season track and field presence, no matter what the off season.
I honestly have no idea what brought Natasha Gay to Highlands Ranch on the longest day of 2017.
As expected, Dodson dominated the mens/boys 100 and Gay the womens/girls 100. For good measure, Gay also pounded the 200.
And now, on to a quick review of the high school level performances for what we might glean from those...
Coronado's Chloe Cassens ran 5:18 for 1500 meters. Converted, that wouldn't qualify her for state, but it's a good summer outing just the same. Much the same could be said for Ethan Loper's (Lutheran) 52.50 in the 400.
Hayley Rayburn flirted with a PR in the pole vault before bowing out at 10-8. Kara Lucyk gave folks more to think about in the 100, 100 hurdles, and long jump.
On balance, though, it looks like most of the high school crowd sat this one out in advance of the state association Junior Olympic meet coming up at the same venue this weekend. Entries for the multis are scant this year, but there look to be solid sessions of track and field shaping up for Friday morning, Friday afternoon and evening, and Saturday afternoon and evening.
Be there or wonder what you missed!
