Around Colorado, Liberty Bell is widely regarded as the standard of "fast." But, how fast is Liberty Bell with respect to a fast course--say Desert Twilight after the head of day has passed--at low altitude?
This article tries to get a handle on the answer to that question. This year, there were 37 Colorado high school girls who ran both Liberty Bell and Desert Twilight. Of those 37, only three did not run faster at Desert Twilight.
To some degree we expect this. Desert Twilight is three weeks later in the season than Liberty Bell, and we expect athletes to get a little faster as the season goes on. But, of the 37 athletes who ran both races, the Desert Twilight times were, on average, 37 seconds faster. That's a lot of faster.
