One More Time At The Line For The Mooney Twins

Sharing The Track

With Michael now fully invested in track, it's helped the twins bond in new ways.

"We both really want each other to race well," Madison explained. "It's been really fun having him here and watching him improve."

While the two now share the track, they also share the nerves of competition, sort of.

"I get so nervous for his races," Madison admitted. "He's such a strong competitor. He makes big jumps because he hates to lose."

On the other side of the spectrum, Michael had been watching his sister dominate the competition her entire high school career.

"She's been racing for a while," Michael said. "So I don't get too nervous for her - I know she's on top of things. And it really helps me when I see her succeed, because I know all I have to do is what she just did."

And now with their final go at a state title on the line, Michael and Madison know they only have do what they've already done before: run hard.

The irony of Michael's rapid accession is not lost to him, or his sister, however. They both are well aware of their rankings heading into state, as well as their potential, and the schedule of events...

"You know, I've been doing this since my freshmen year, and I haven't won a state title yet," Madison explained. "And he has the first race between the two of us... He could win a state title before me."

Madison laughed at the thought, knowing that even if he did beat her to the punch, she'd be thrilled to share the moment with him.

"Ideally, it would incredible if we got to celebrate our state titles together when this is all over," Madison shared. "That would be really special."
