Shining Mountain Waldorf and Heritage Christian Shine in 1A


Heritage Christian's Levi Kilian claimed three state titles, as Heritage Christian dominated the distance events.

On the boy's side of the competition Josh Damir was the sprint king. The senior claimed two state titles - the 100 and the 200. He ran 11.28 and 22.87.

The 400 was a two-way battle between sophomore Alex Ramos and Joseph Wilcox. The two went under 51 seconds, with Ramos taking the win in 50.72.

The distance events belonged to Heritage Christian Academy - they simply dominated everything from the 800 up to the 3,200.

Levi Kilian was impressive across the three days. He won three state titles - the 800, 1,600, and the 3200. Kilian went 1:59 in the 800, 4:34 in the 1,600, and 10:04 in the 3,200. His 1,600 and 3,200 performances were new state meet records.

Behind him, teammate Isaiah Bowsher was the runner-up in the 800 and the 1,600, while teammate Seth Bruxvoort was the runner-up in the 3200. Additionally, Heritage Christian took the top-four spots in the 1,600.

In the hurdles Arlo Garner swept the competition, winning the 110 and the 300 hurdles. He won the 110 by a very slim margin, running 15.42 to Blayden Fletcher's 15.44. Garner's winning time in the 300 of 39.56 was the only sub 40 .

 In the high jump three went over six feet, led by freshman state champ Wesley Ryan, who went 6-2.

Jaden Johnson claimed a three-inch victory in the long jump, going 20-7 while Jade Cass took a three-and-a-half-inch victory in the triple jump with a mark of 43-01.5.

In the pole vault the day belonged to Tommy Harmonwho went 12-3. He was the lone vaulter over 12 feet in the competition.

In the throws Jt Borunda took the discus title with a toss of 136-6, while Keylan Dracon won the shot by over a foot with a mark of 42-9.5

In the relays it was a battle of the teams with an H in their name, except for the 4x1, which was won by North Park in 45.68. Haxtun and Heritage Christian battled in the 4x2 with the win going to Haxtun in 1:32.93 - a new state meet record. Heritage Christian battled Holly for the title in the 4x4, this time is was Heritage with the win in 3:35.89. They backed that up with a dominated victory in the 4x8, winning in 8:23, which was nearly half-a-minute ahead of their nearest competitor. Additionally, their time crushed their previous state meet record by 13 seconds.

Anyone in the stands could've called the team race, as it was clear after one day that Heritage Christian would dominate. They tallied a staggering 169 points. Behind them, Cotopaxi and Huxton tallied 41 to finish second.
