Former Silver Creek and future Colorado State runner Brock Dykema led the way for Colorado high schoolers.
Runners from across the state, and the country, descended on Boulder this morning for the 40th running of the BolderBOULDER 10k.
While the track season is over for most of Colorado's high school athletes, and cross country is months away, quite a few high schoolers took to the streets of Boulder to kick off their summer training.
The first Colorado high schooler to cross the line was Silver Creek's Brock Dykema, who finished 16th overall, running 33:23. Dykema is headed to Colorado State next year. David Cardenas drove all the way from Grand Junction to race in Boulder. The Central High in-coming senior ran 33:37. Niwot's Ares Reading was a few seconds back in 33:47 to be the third high schooler across the line.
For the girls Brynn Siles was the first to cross the line in a staggering 36:27. Clearly, she's got a bright future in the longer distances. Additionally, Tiya Chamberlin proved to be in great summer shape, as she led the way with a 37:22 finish. Silver Creek's Lauren Zoe Baker showed that she'll be ready for some longer distances in college, as she ran 38:37, along with Addi Iken, who ran 38:49. Quinn McConnell didn't waste any of her track fitness, as she ran the 10k distance in 39:13.
And keep an eye on Mckenna Mazeski. The 13 year-old from Aurora ran 39:55. She'll be headed to eighth grade next year.
The overall race was won by Boulder's Tyler McCandless, a former Penn State all-american. McCandless ran hard from the gun, winning the race in 30:54 - a 26 second victory. On the women's side, Boulder's Melissa Dock claimed the title in 34:44.
