Courtesy of Mark Weeks, boys cross country coach at Pine Creek High School, and Jeff Mausner, we now have results from the 1967,1968, and 1969 state cross country meets. Each of these meets were run in Boulder. 1967 and 1968 were contested around the old Frank Potts Stadium at CU. 1969 was contested at the University Country Club (now Flatirons Golf Course).
All cross country races during this era were two miles, though one of the state meets below didn't quite work out that way (see below).
Anyone with results from any other years prior to 1977 is cordially invited to submit those. We'll gladly add to the list of state meet records we have here. A photo or two from any of these state meets is especially welcome. Please scan any photos and send along to the e-mail address in the lower left corner of this page.

Notes: The 1969 Division I race was marred by problems with course markings and management. Several of the leaders took a wrong turn on the course just after one mile. A few runners were rerouted to the correct (but longer) course before officials gave up. The rerouted runners ended up running something on the order of an extra 100 yards. Mike Peterson was in the lead at the time this happened, but ended up in 9th place after working his way back through the field. For a while, Mike Peterson would own the Colorado high school record in the mile and would later be an All-American at CU.
Steve (Ted) Casteneda would go on to become one of Colorado's best-ever distance runners and, eventually, a national elite distance runner.
For a little perspective on things, Douglas County was at this time the only high school in Douglas County and was competing in the same classification as schools such as Julesburg (which was probably bigger than Douglas County at the time), Deer Trail, Merino, Debeque, and Woodlin. I'm curious as to when these smaller schools abandoned their cross country programs.
