But when it's timed to perfection, it's art.
On that note, I compiled a list of the boys 1,600 this past outdoor season. This is a month-by-month list of improvements for the top 50 milers this season.
You'll see the end-spot for each miler, and where they began.
Topping the chart for run-in-Colorado this year was Broomfield's Michael Mooney's 4:11.99, which he ran at the St. Vrain Invite. Mooney's progression is quite impressive - he ran 4:24 in March, 4:14 in April, and 4:11 in May. He revved up his engine through the season and timed it perfectly.
Another really impressive drop in time came from Soroco's Ben Kelley, who went from 4:31 in March, to 4:21 in April, to 4:17 in May.
Perhaps one of the biggest season-improvements came from Chatfield's Drew Johnson, who went from 4:44 in March, to 4:19 ...
