Gunnison's Colton Stice lined up with the big schools in the Sweepstakes Race, and the 3A runner made the most of his trip. Stice ran a 15:41 to finish 24th. That's the fastest 5k time run in 3A this season.
In the boy's Varsity Small School division it was a Heritage Christian Academy kind of night. Seth Bruxvoort and Levi Kilian went 1-2, running 15:37 and 15:44. They spoke about their finish following the race.
While the 1-2 punch was enough to give Heritage Christian the coveted three points between two runners, it was Eagle Valley who took the team title with 58 points over Heritage's 71. Eagle Valley put three in the top 11, led by Carter Baker, who ran 16:39 for fifth.
For the girl's it was Dawson's Lucca Fulkerson who dropped over a minute from her season best to finish second in 19:01 in the Varsity Small School division.
In the team competition Silver Creek dominated with 43 points, led by Alyssa Morgan's fourth place finish.
