Kain Medrano tossed 56-3.75 in the shot for the No. 2 mark in the event.
We had three stellar meets on the tail-end of the past week, and they provided quite the shakeup in the latest Colorado rankings. Between the Colorado Mines HS Indoor Series #5, the Let's Get REAL Invitational, and the Air Force High School Indoor Open, we had our fair share of eye-opening performances.
We had nine "new" state-leading marks on the boy's side, and a ton of movement within the rankings.
Starting in the sprints, Cameron Harris became the third Colorado boy to run 6.87 this season. Yes - you read that right. The top of the rankings go three wide in the boy's 60, because three have run 6.87.
And speaking of sharing the top of the rankings, Valor Christian freshman Gavin Sawchuk went 21.99 at Air Force to tie the top time of the indoor season.
Zion Gordon may share the top of the rankings in the 60, but he went 7.91 to own the No. 1 time in the 60 hurdles.
Cole Sprout made his 2019 debut at Air Force and as expected, it was a win in the mile. Sprout ran 4:23.15 for a state-leading time.
Brandon Hippe came out of the the gates swinging in the 3,000 at the Let's Get REAL Invitational. Hippe ran a state-leading 9:14.
Across town and a day later Erik Le Roux put his name on top of the board in the 2-mile. Le Roux ran 9:50 for the win, and a new Colorado No. 1.
Ryan Blake proved his early fitness in the high jump, going 6-4 at Air Force to tie for the No. 1 mark in Colorado this season.
And then there's the horizontal jumps...
Keep an eye on Elizabeth senior Mason Anthony these next few months, because he's launched himself to a new level in the long jump. Anthony went 23-9.25 at Mines, which is No. 1 in Colorado, and No. 9 nationally.
Defending triple jump state champ Allam Bushara has already set the bar heading into the 2019 track season. Despite competing in the TJ for the first time in 2019, he dominated the event in a state-leading 47-5.5 at Air Force.
On the girl's side of the rankings we had six "new" Colorado No. 1 marks.
Taylor James put together an impressive weekend, competing in both the Let's Get REAL Invitational, and the Air Force HS Indoor Open. Friday night James ran a state-leading 2:18.46 in the 800, and she came back a day later and nearly duplicated the feat in the 400, running the No. 2 time in Colorado.
Anna Shults proved her strength, winning the mile at Air Force from the front in a state-leading 5:12, while freshmen-phenom Riley Stewart ran her first race since Footlocker Nationals. Stewart ran 11:34 in the 2 mile for a new Colorado No. 1.
And then there's Anna Hall. You know someone is a true competitor when they're nearly out-doing themselves every week.
Hall went 8.56 in the 60 hurdles to reset her own state-leading mark at Air Force, and it's also No. 9 in the country. She also tied her indoor best in the high jump, going 5-10 to win the event.
Mia Manson has gradually been finding her rhythm in the pole vault this indoor season. She added another inch to her state-leading mark, this time setting the bar at 11-8.
