This Year
Even in basing this look solely on last year's league results, there sure is a lot to look forward to this year... With soo many returning, this meet already looks loaded. And if last year's results tell us anything, it's that this year's champion will likely be decided in the final event of the meet.
On paper Rampart and Coronado are so close there is no clear favorite. And even then, Liberty and Fountain-Ft.Carson aren't too far behind. Every last point will matter here.
In the 100 the top five from last year's league finals return, lead by Cami Beatty, who won here last year. The Pine Creek senior will want to cap her high school career with a title defense, though she'll have her hands full with Keyanda Bolton, Alexi Bettinger and , Tinah Muhammed, who all dipped under 13 seconds here last year.
The 200 will see a new champ this year, and Jasmine Charles is the top returner. She finished second last year, and she'll have Bolton to challenge her for the title.
Likewise, the 400 graduated the top two from last year's league meet, and on tap looks like someone from Coronado. Isabella Janney is the top returner, and she'll be joined by teammates Alison Ambuul and Zoe Gross.
Mikayla Cox was the runaway winner in the 800 last year, and this year she'll want to defend that title. She won by two seconds last year.
With graduation and relocation sweeping out the top two spots of last year's 1,600, the top returner is Coronado's Grace Abernathy. But the path to a league title isn't clear just yet - she'll have battle the Rampart trip of Mollie Roden, Lynzie Kutsner, and Emma Perschke, and Coronado's Madeline Morland. Last year's 1,600 had seven run 5:26 or faster.
Mikayla Cox ran away with the 3,200 last year, though the top seven return this year. Cox will have to defend her title against Kutsner, Morland, and Perschke.
The 100 hurdles will have a new champ this year, and on paper that looks like Katelyn McMoore, who is the top returner, having finished second here last year. She'll have to battle Leilani Washington, as both girls went under 16 here last year.
We could see quite a battle in the 300 hurdles, as Lily Acosta returns to defend her title against Raekyiah Williams. Acosta was the lone runner to dip under 47 seconds last year, though Williams with barely three-tenths of a second back.
Speaking of title defenses, Emily Ellis won the high jump by a clear two inches last year. She'll likely want to cap her senior year with a win, which she'll have to battle McMoore for.
The top two from last year's long jump competition have graduated, which leaves the top two returners from Fountain-Ft. Carson to battle it out. Zaria Joseph and Kyra Davis both went over 17 feet last year.
The duo are also the top two returners in the triple jump, meaning Fountain-Ft. Carson could tally up some serious points in the horizontal jumps.
Rampart's Gabby Peltier dominated the pole vault last year, and she should this year. She was the lone vaulter over eight feet, and nine feet. She's a clear favorite.
Likewise, Kierra Nash dominated the discus last year, and will look to defend here title. Meanwhile, Jordan Thomas and Meg Tualamalii were separated by three inches in the shot, with Thomas taking the title. Both return, so we should see an exciting rematch.
