Hustling At Harrison

Air Academy started off the boys section of the meet with a bang and a message. Their 4x800m ran a state leading time of 8:15.63. That is nearly 10 seconds faster than the current second best time in the state.

Harrison's Tyrese VanHorne and Devon Washington helped lead the Panthers relays to two titles (4x100m and 4x400m) and a second-place finish (4x200m). They both also ran the open 400m and VanHorne came away with the win in 49.25.

Zayden Davis won both hurdle races with Palmer's Elijah Brown hot on his heels. Davis' 15.37 and 40.19 prove that last week's wind aided results were no fluke.

Doherty's Donte Marsh claimed his second meet win of the year when he cleared 6'5". Canon City senior Brendan Young was not far behind, but had a big day ahead as he would go on to win the long jump (22'0") as well as the triple jump (45'6.5"). Young also ran a leg of the Canon City 4x100m that finished third behind Harrison and Palmer.

Crowley County senior Lane Walter made his presence felt when he won discus with a throw of 165'6". That mark places him as the #2 discus thrower in the state. Walter followed this victory up by running the 200m dash as well. Now his 24.16 may not seem like anything to write home about in 4A or 5A, but in 2A Walter's time currently places him 2nd. I don't know if you have seen him but Walter is a pretty big man and I don't see many other top caliber throwers lining up to sprint a 200m.

By now you have undoubtedly heard the name Erik Le RouxThe standout freshman phenom from Cheyenne Mountain. LeRoux tore up cross country courses all fall, and now that spring is upon us it seems that he is picking up right where he left off. Le Roux ran a new state leading time of 9:43.79.

At the end of the day Cheyenne Mountain walked away with both team titles.
