Demons Rage At The Demon Invitational

The boy's side of the competition was dominated by red, and by red, I mean Demon Red. Glenwood Springs made sure to nab as many victories on their home track as possible.

Kuba Bartnik was definitely feeling the home-track power. The Glenwood senior was clearly pumped to win the 100 on his home track, and go 1-2, as he ran a 11.32. The time was just ahead of teammate Ale Angeles, who was second in 11.62.

Bartnik doubled back to win the 200 in 23.56, which was nearly half a second ahead of his nearest competitor.

Gavin Olson made it a Demon sweep of the sprints. The Glenwood senior ran clear of the field to win the 400 in 51.57.

Paonia made it a 1-2 sweep in the 800, with Harley Ewert and Logan Green both dipping under 2:06. Ewert took the win in 2:05.45 to Green's 2:05.96.

Glenwood turned the tables in the 1,600, however, as Gavin Harden and Henry Barth went 1-2. Harden dipped under 4:30, running 4:28, while teammate Barth was just five seconds back in 4:33.

Barth did get a W before the day was over. The Glenwood senior ran away from the field in the 3,200, running 10:02 for a 39 second victory.

Grant Redmond's 6-5 clearance won the high jump, and is a state-leading mark in 2A.

In the pole vault Eric Casey was a big winner, going 14-1 FTW. The Steamboat senior was a clear two-feet above the competition.

Meanwhile Wyatt Ewer added the long jump title to his 300 hurdle victory. Ewer was the lone competitor to clear 20 feet, landing at 20-11.

The triple jump, on the other hand, was a hotly contested affair. Aj SmethersGeffrey Oliva, and Brennan Pratt were separated by just inches, with Smethers taking the victory in 39-4.5. Oliva was second in 39-0, and Pratt was third in 38-11.

Likewise, Justin Andrews and Jackson Stricker took the shot put competition down to the inches. Andrews inched his way past Stricker for the W, winning the event 45-6 to Stricker's 45-3.

The discus was another hotly contested event event. Jack Tracy's 134-7 lead three over 130 feet. Darryl Gallegos and Marcos Ramirez finished second and third.

Glenwood dominated the team competition with a staggering 190 points. Cedaredge was second with 57 points, while Paonia was third with 50.
