Fire On The Track At Liberty Bell

Arria Minor won the 100 and the 200 at Liberty Bell Saturday.

Arria Minor tore down the straightaway without a shadow, hair loose and flying wild behind her, bright red headband and her eyes set on the bright red-ish track in front of her.

Eyes, forward.

Her competition was the clock, herself; her previous bests, her expectations. Behind her the race was for second, because The Arria Minor was on the track, doing Arria Minor things - winning.

When she crossed the faded white finish line and slowed to a stop she took deep breaths, but appeared unfazed, despite the fact that she had just torched the field in the tenth fastest time in the country.

It was just another day at the office for Colorado's best sprinter.

A year ago we had weekly updates on Minor. This year the Denver East senior has raced sparingly - this was the third time she's raced in Colorado this outdoor season. But when she has raced, it's been a national-caliber performance.

Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Bell Invitational were no different.

The future Georgia Bulldog made her intentions clear Friday when she ran 11.51 in the 100 prelims - that's the fifth fastest time in the country and No. 1 in Colorado, then came back a few hours later to run 24.38 in the 200 prelims.

Saturday she put her stamp on the meet by winning the 100 in 11.67, then came back to run 23.77 in the 200 for the No. 10 time in the country (behind her US No. 8 23.72).

While Minor put on a show for the packed stands at Littleton Public Stadium, she wasn't the only one - the Liberty Bell Invitational was littered with some incredible performances across the board.

With three weeks to State one thing is certain - It's Go Time.

Editor's Note: I'd like to send my deepest apologies out to anyone who was planning/hoping to watch the Live Stream of the meet. We experienced some technical difficulties early Friday. We were able to record some of Friday's preliminary heats, however, and will be loading those videos to the site shortly.
