Three Predictions For The Season Ahead: 2A

Isaac Roberts Reigns Over The Distance Events

A year ago Isaac Roberts ran away with the 3,200 state title in the final lap, took a runner-up finish in a thrilling 1,600, and finished 11th in the 800.

While the triple is difficult enough, Roberts proved that he's clearly strong enough to handle two-and-a-half miles of pain.

If anything, perhaps last year's triple was just a dress rehearsal for the 2020 state meet, because he's also the top returner in all three events

So, how much of a favorite is he heading into the 2020 outdoor season?

He returns with a two-second "lead" over the field in the 800, three-seconds in the 1,600, four-seconds in the 3,200.

Add that he had a monster fall where he claimed his first cross country state title, winning by 10 seconds.

His best chance for competition comes from Noel Lopez and Andre Stablein, who both made big leaps last fall.

Lopez took the runner-up spot at the state cross country meet, just ahead of Stablein. Of the two Stablein owns the best marks on the track, with PRs of 4:33 in the 1,600 and 9:54 in the 3,200.
