Sophia Abernethy has quietly been putting together a stellar season of her own.
The Standley Lake junior used every step of the 3.1 mile course to gain on the competition Friday morning.
Abernethy led from start to finish, gradually telescoping away from the field to pick up the fourth victory of her season, running 20:17.
Behind her Dakota Ridge freshman Hanan Aldelemy took a conservative approach, sitting back through the opening mile before surging hard over the second mile to take second place in 20:55.
Elizabeth Fender and Eva Bennion finished in a furious kick, running 21:11, and 21:12, just ahead of the D'Evelyn duo of Jayden Miller and Sonja Morin.
Miller ran 21:18, just ahead Morin's 21:22.
The team race was nearly as tight as the boy's race - but with a few more squads in the mix.
D'Evelyn put three in the top-10, and their five in the top-23, which tallied up to 54 points. Dakota Ridge had the best 1-2 punch, but was eight points back with their five in the top-25 for 62 points. Arvada West topped everyone in terms of their fifth runner - who finished 19th. They tallied 69 points to finish third.
