Tuohy-Gaydos Blazes A 14:57 At The East Meet

The gun went off at 8:00 am sharp and just a mere 30 seconds later, it was clear what the intentions of Grahm Tuohy-Gaydos. While the intentions are clear, the result doesn't follow suit.

That wasn't the case today. Touhy-Gaydos ran the #7 time in Colorado history today as he crossed the line in 14:57.

The Green Mountain senior knew he could run fast after a few races at higher altitude and he certainly accomplished that today. He's vaulted himself to the top of the 4A leaderboards and might have taken the lead as the odds on favorite as we gear up for the slate of championship races in the coming weeks.

Golden's Bryce Reeburgh was the second place finisher as he crossed the line in 16:02. Jonathan Mahoney (Green Mountain), Flynn Halsor (Golden), and Calvin Given (Green Mountain) were the final three finishers inside the top-five in the morning.

The three scorers inside the top-five were enough for Green Mountain to take home the team title by 20 points. They finished with a final score of 25 points, to Golden's 45.

On the girl's side of things, Denver East senior Laura Romero took home the victory on her home course.

It wasn't an easy win though as Romero and Denver South's Sara Wexler were neck and neck through 4800 meters. Romero unleashed a kick with 200 meters that gave her two seconds on Wexler and likely helped both finish underneath the 19:00 plateau. Romero ran 18:56 while Wexler ran 18:58.

Julia Schor of Denver East crossed the line in third place, 14 seconds back of Wixler, in a time of 19:12 while Golden's Lily Mourer (19:25) and Meredith Overton (20:07) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

While Wexler didn't get the victory, her team got the last laugh as Denver South took home the team title with a score of 41 points to Golden's 46. Wexler was joined by teammates Anna Roush and Olivia Ennis inside the top-10 while Olivia Jaquette and Grace McClung sealed the victory with their 11th and 12th place finishes.
