Leaping Into New Territory At Liberty Bell

There were quite a few state-leading marks that came out of the meet, starting with the girl's 100.

Michelle McDonald sprinted off without a shadow over the final third of the 100 to win the event in a 5A. No. 1 of 12.08. That was Win No. 1 of her day - she made it a sweep of the (shorter) sprints by winning the 200 in 24.83, which was just ahead of Sophia McHenry's 24.87.

And speaking of sweeping, Kyairra Reigh gave Denver East a sweep of sprints.

Reigh dominated the 400.

The Denver East senior was all business as she blazed a 54.01 - a five-second victory, and Colorado's first Sub-55 second quarter of the season. That's a 5A No. 1 by over a second, and a US No. 19

Denver East's sweep continued onwards (or, upwards) into the 800, as Julia Schor claimed a tight 800 race in 2:17.13. Chloe Johnson took second in 2:18.12, just ahead of Keira Gamily's 2:18.17.

In the 1,600 Madelyn Blazo stated her intentions early. The Pine Creek junior set a hot pace and outlasted the competition to win the event in 5:13.90. Emily Lamontagne kicked late for a runner-up finish in 5:14.94.

Friday night Arapahoe's Ava Mitchell and Ava Escorcia enjoyed what nearly every distance runner does: running the 3,200 under the lights.

Escorcia pushed the pedal to the floor in the second mile, though Mitchel surged late to claim the victory here, running 11:15.45. Escorcia was just three seconds back in 11:18.95.

Fabiola Belibi torched the track, and the competition in the hurdles. The Regis Jesuit junior won the 100 Hurdles in 14.65 - nearly a second-victory. Belibi's win the 300H was even more dominate - she ran 44.98 for a three-second victory and 5A No. 2.

Off the track Hailee O'Neill cleared the competition, and 5-4, to claim the high jump. Likewise, Mikayla Dalton won the pole vault with a 10-6 clearance.

Giavonna Meeks maintained her reign over the throws.

Meeks tossed a 4A No. 1 personal best of 161- to win the discus. Additionally, that's a US No. 16 mark for the Northfield junior. Kajsa Borrman was second in 140-05. Meeks also won the shot put with a toss of 46-11.5.

The team race was tight, though by the time the track was cooling Saturday Denver East emerged victorious 69-65 over Arapahoe. Pine Creek took third with 54 points, just ahead of Regis Jesuit's 51.
