Dropping The Hammer At The Windjammer

While Blair answered any questions about who'd win the girl's race early, the boy's race needed a few miles to sort things out.

Conifer's Patrick Doty led the opening mile in just over 5:05, while Eagle Valley's Jake Drever sat a few seconds behind him.

The second mile was where the race was made, however.

Drever surged hard and created a sizable gap that only got bigger with each stride. The Eagle Valley junior was rewarded for his patience - he picked up his first win of the season, running 16:15.

Doty held on for a runner-up finish, crossing the finish line in 16:44, and then the pencils started running.

Littleton's Grady Redding finished third in 16:53, which was just ahead of Conifer's No. 2 - Wyatt Bly, who finished fourth in 16:56, while Highlands Ranch's David Canaday was the last to crack 17, running 16:59.

Conifer put three inside the top-six, with Isaac VanWestrienen finishing sixth, though Rock Canyon's pack nearly upended the team race.

While Conifer had an unrivaled top-three, Rock Canyon - led by Chris Ahern's 11th-place finish - put their entire top-five inside the top-28.

When the pencils revealed their tally, it was Conifer by single digits. They tallied 93 points, which was just ahead of Rock Canyon's 98. Meanwhile Eagle Valley nearly stole the show - the finished third with 100 points.
